STARTING A MOVEMENT
Unicef estimates that there are over 140 million orphans in our world. How did we get here? What does this even mean? If we are truly going to get to the bottom of the orphan crisis then we must inspire a movement where people will no longer stand for this catastrophe.
When many of us think about caring for orphans we automatically think "adoption." But adoption, although wonderful and needed, is only one way of caring for orphans. Adoption is usually only needed because of deeper root problems such as poverty, war, disease, lack of education, government policy, and the breakdown of the family. If we can inspire more people to address some of these issues, then we can prevent a child from becoming an orphan in the first place. That is orphan care!
That is why The Archibald Project is using stories to educate people in all ways to care for orphaned and vulnerable children. This is leading to more holistic and ethical orphan care, and over time this will lead to long-term solutions that will help eliminate the orphan crisis.
and together we end the orphan crisis!
We are using stories to open people’s eyes to new possibilities for their own life. The Archibald Project is using videos, writing, photography, podcasts, and social media to tell inspiring orphan care stories from all over the world. We are then presenting these stories on our different media outlets to an audience of over 100,000 people.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the way movements are started. When a movement gains momentum, it makes getting involved seem less risky. A movement reshapes what we hold to be normal or acceptable in our society. A movement holds the power to bring about large-scale change, and movements are fueled by stories...
The end of slavery in the U.S. began decades before Civil War with The Abolitionists Movement. These people decided they would not let this atrocity exist any longer. Their story spread, they gained momentum, and they changed the world.
We believe the orphan crisis will end in a similar way, and that is why The Archibald Project is inspiring and mobilizing a movement. We want to be able to look back one day and be completely baffled by the idea that there were once 140 million orphans in the world.
Take part in the movement
