FAMILY PRESERVATION: the movement to help keep vulnerable children at home with their families rather than in foster homes or institutions.
The presence of orphanages and international adoption often causes vulnerable families to willing place their child/children in an orphanage with the hope of "giving them a better life." However, when children are placed in a group home they are exposed to revolving caregivers, often suffer from attachment and bonding disorders and are more likely to be abused sexually, emotionally and physically AND their rate for being trafficked is increased.
With the rise of half educated foreign aide we have seen the breakdown of vulnerable families rise in developing countries. This trend MUST stop. We MUST educate ourselves on the organizations and practices we partner with so that we are helping to truly end the orphan crisis rather than increase the number of orphans in our world.
Below are 4 organizations with whom we, The Archibald Project have actually worked. We respect their model of preserving vulnerable families and their ethics behind aide.
If you are seeking to adopt internationally we suggest you only move forward with an organization who first seeks to reunify children with biological families and has a high ratio of Family Preservation to International adoption.
A great way to inspire you to care for vulnerable families is to physically show you these organizations in action!
